This Day’s Prominent News Headlines

22nd January 1994 ❤️

This particular day’s news headlines from across the world, prove to be a bit sensational ones, as well.

The first prominent news of the day is on –

Singapore hanging two drug traffickers.

Unlike many other nations, Singapore has a very strict policy against drug trafficking, with a mandatory death penalty for significant drug offenses. As such, several high-profile cases of executions for drug trafficking took place in the early 1990s, often involving individuals from Hong Kong.

Fast forward to thirty years later - in November 2024, Singapore still continued to carry out its hanging of a convicted drug trafficker in a week despite appeals for clemency from the United Nations.

Rosman Abdullah, 55, was executed for trafficking 57.43 grams of heroin into the Southeast Asian city-state, Singapore’s drug enforcement agency.

The second important news for the day is the continuous tussle between TN Governor and CM. However, Channa Reddy, Governor of TN Plays Down Differences with CM Jaya, yet, refuses his assent to the Bill.

The third one is quite scandalous: It’s on the sexual abuse charges levelled against Michael Jackson. He agrees to pay $14 million to 14 year old.

The fourth news is on the bold MCC-ian TN Seshan refusing to extend deadline for issuing voter identity cards.

It was T. N. Seshan who made it mandatory to implement voter ID cards for all voters, and yes! he succeeded!
