The Library Summer Challenge is back this year as eBook Bingo - a digital reading challenge!

Participants need to register yourselves on their registration link.

eBook Bingo encourages readers to plunge into a variety of books, authors and genres at Onleihe, the free digital library offered by Geothe-Institut.

The aim is to expand the reading comfort zones and inspire reluctant readers with reading incentives.

If you love to discover new books, authors and genres in Onleihe - the free digital library offered by Goethe-Institut, register rightaway at their link HERE.

Once you register and activate, you will have access to more than 35,000 eBooks, audio books, movies, materials for German language learners, etc.

Magazines and newspapers are available for downloading from the Onleihe on PC, laptop and mobile devices. At the end of the loan period, the media becomes unavailable by default.

Rules –

1. Anyone who is interested in reading out aloud, can participate in this contest. Age no bar.

2. Participants need to register in advance.

3. There is no registration fee.

4. While reading, participants should be careful not to misspell a word.

5. No awkward pauses allowed.

6. Fluency, Word clarity and coherence will be taken into consideration.

7. There will be a maximum of seven participants. Hence participants will be selected purely based on first-come-first-served basis alone!

8. Organisers are not responsible for any network problem from the participant’s side.

9. Winners will be awarded cash prizes by a reputed publishing house based in Chennai.

10. Participants who are selected, will be asked to send a snap of yours for the flyer and the brochure.

11. The decision of the judges will be final and binding on the participants.

12. Since this is a speed reading challenge, participants who finish the fastest [with clarity] in the minimum time, will be declared the winners.

Call for Students..! 'Write India Season 2'!

WRITE INDIA SEASON 2:
SHORT STORY CONTEST BY TIMES OF INDIA WITH SUDHA MURTHY

Passage by the author:
Life is an exam where the syllabus is unknown and question papers are not set.

Rules by the author:
1. The story must allow the reader to take something positive away from it. It could be hope, a sense of happiness, a life lesson, or anything else that fires your imagination.
2. Write because the world will be better with your story in it. May the words be with you!

Write India rules:
1. Read carefully the passage provided by the author. You can use it anywhere in your story.
2. Each author has provided some rules. If your story does not abide by the rules, it shall be considered disqualified.
3. DO NOT tamper the Author passage. Entries with 'split' passage or with any kind of change in the passage will be disqualified.
4. Stick to a minimum of 1500 words and a maximum of 3000 words.
5. The story must be written in English. Be careful with your editing, grammar and punctuation. Though we are primarily looking for good storytellers, language skill will strengthen your case in case of a tie.
6. Please submit your story before or on the last day of the contest for it to be considered. Only entries submitted till midnight of every 30th will be considered.
7. If you send more than one entry for a particular author, please remember we will be considering only the last/updated entry for that month.
8. DO NOT upload or email scanned or JPEG files of your story. Such entries will be disqualified.
9. If you are submitting your story at writeindia@internet.in, please mention: name, age, city, profession, gender.

What is Write India?

Write India is a collaborative writing initiative by Times Internet Limited (TIL), which will have a set of 10 celebrity authors writing the passage of short stories. These passages will be later opened to public for completion. Every month we will select one winner from the entries received with the help of the ‘Celebrity Author of the Month’.

Eligibility

This Campaign is valid for users who are Indian citizens entitled to enter into any contract and are aged 18 years and above.

Participants below eighteen years of age may participate in the campaign with parental or guardian guidance and approval.

The PSA Essay Competition for Postgrads 2017

Postgraduate Essay Competition 2017

The PSA/Journal of Postcolonial Writing Postgraduate Essay Competition provides a great opportunity for postgraduate scholars to show case their work in a leading postcolonial academic journal and to earn some really useful research funding. 

The winners and runners-up constantly remind us of the innovative and timely contributions that postgraduate scholars make to postcolonial studies. The competition is a means of duly recognising their work and of furthering their careers as postcolonialists. 

The deadline for submissions is 1 April 2017.

Applicants are invited to submit an essay on any topic relating to postcolonial studies. We welcome essays from all disciplines, including cultural studies, geography, politics, theology, history, anthropology, literature, film, or development studies. The competition is open to any postgraduate student who is registered at any institution anywhere in the world, by, or within three months of, the submission deadline.

All essays are subject to an anonymous peer review by a panel of established experts in postcolonial studies. The winning essay will, subject to editorial approval, be published in The Journal of Postcolonial Writing, a journal that has a long tradition of publishing innovative work in the field and which has had an ongoing partnership with the PSA.

The winner will be awarded £250, and, should they not already be a member, will receive a complimentary year-long membership to the PSA. The runner-up will also have their work notably mentioned.

Guidelines for applicants

Essays should be no longer than 7,500 words (including bibliography and any notes), and must conform to the MLA referencing style), or shorter than 7,000 words. Any essays that are too long or too short will be automatically disqualified, so please ensure your word count meets this requirement.

The Journal of Contemporary Women’s Writing (Oxford University Press) is delighted to announce the launch of the 2017 Essay Prize. The Contemporary Women’s Writing Essay Prize aims to encourage new scholarship in the field of contemporary women’s writing, recognise and reward outstanding achievement by new researchers and support the professional development of next generation scholars.

The winner of the inaugural 2016 Essay Prize was Mary Horgan for “About Change: Ali Smith’s Numismatic Modernism.” You can read Mary’s essay here. Three further submissions were Highly Commended and have been published in the current issue of the journal.

Essay Competition-Cum-Young Scholar’s Seminar – 2016-17

Elocution Contest 2016

Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, the literary wing of Shriram group, is organising Thirukkural Elocution Contest 2016, the annual state-level competition from July 30 to August 28 for school and college students.

The preliminary rounds will be held in the city on July 30 at Dr. MGR-Janaki Arts and Science College for Women, R.A. Puram.

The contestants will be divided into four groups: juniors, seniors, super seniors and college. Institutions can send two entries from each class. Last date for registration is July 23.

All geared up for 'Chennai's Own' Literary Festival 2016

Chennai’s literati are all geared up with gusto for the third edition of the Chennai Literary Festival, which be held at various locations including the University of Madras campus from 17 February 2016. Students from over 50 colleges in the city would be participating in the three-day fete.

On the first day there would be a debate in English on 'Education Today and Tomorrow' with school students from different academic streams taking part. Tamil scholar Ramalingam would be addressing students at Anna Adarsh College for a discussion on 'Navil Thorum Nool Nayam' in Tamil.

The second day would have Tamil Oratorical Competition held at Loyola College. Pavannan and Manushi would receive award for best literary works for the year along with cash prizes.

During the festival, workshops on topics such as Social Media, Storytelling, Copy Editing, Publishing, Dalit literature, Smayamum Sanga Ilakkiyangalil Oppanai and Sanga Ilakkiyam Kaattum Manidham would be held in different colleges spread across the city.
