‘Clerks of Oxenford’ from the III BA English Lit Class
A Note of Appreciation
I am so happy and proud to acknowledge and to appreciate a bevy of lovely ‘Clerks of Oxenford’ from the III BA English Literature Class.
Like Chaucer’s scholar, you’ve prioritised the ‘twenty books’ of learning over the distractions of the world.
Also, by carrying this book (Beginning Theory by Peter Barry), you are signalling a similar devotion and commitment much akin to the Clerk of Oxenford. Your physical books are ‘signs’ to use a Barthesian term - of your commitment to the ‘Writerly’ life.
Jorge Luis Borges famously imagined that Paradise would be a kind of library. π By bringing the text book to class, you have brought a piece of that paradise with you.
Kudos dear students. We are so proud of you.
