Some fascinating ABCD on the Malabar Giant Squirrels
#intothewildwithrufus
Well, we’ve already written enough on this lovely Malabar Giant Squirrel in our blogposts and vlogposts!
Still, they don’t seem to satiate our love for these cute and lovely giants of the rodent world.
Indeed, they are true giants of the rodent world you see! An adult Malabar Giant Squirrel can measure up to a metre (about 3 feet) long, with their bushy tail making up more than half of that entire length.
These incredibly agile squirrels, are strictly arboreal and rarely descend to the forest floor. In that sense, they can be called ArBoreal Canopy Dwellers! (ABCD)
And what’s more? To travel through the entire stretch of the Western Ghats canopy, they do some astonishing acrobatic leaps, clearing gaps of up to six metres (20 feet) between tree branches.
Added, these cute Malabar Giant Squirrels are completely endemic to the forests of peninsular India, especially in the Western Ghats.
You may want to watch our past Vlogpost on the Malabar Giant Squirrels HERE from exactly two years ago during our forest outing!
