Youngsters discussing a book @ BCL
The British Council, Chennai conducts a book club every month. This is a forum for exchanging individual views on pre-selected books and discuss the various ways of “reading” a book. The Group will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month at British Council, Chennai. Members of Book Reading Club have to read the book selected for a month. In order to make it more effective, the sessions would be moderated by a facilitator from their end.

Date: Saturday, 27 June 2015 at 14.30 hrs.

Images of Women in German Cinema

Images of Women in German Cinema

@ Goethe-Institut Auditorium

on Thursday, 25 June 2015 at 6.30 pm

This film, as part of a series, will focus on the question – what kind of images of strong women are drawn and reflected in the cinematic perspective. This is about ‘big values’ such as freedom, recognition, justice and humanity. At the same time it is about maintaining your own life in a world that prevents you somehow from expressing your ideas and ways of living.

Margarethe von Trotta studies art, German and Romanic languages before attending drama school in Munich. She first made a name for herself as an actress before her directorial debut in 1975 together with Volker Schlondorff. Many of her works are centered on strong female characters and she has established herself not just as a leading female filmmaker but also as a central figure of New German Cinema.
