It’s not in saying anything! But saying a thing well...!

Special Appreciation  | Academic Writing Paper

Well, this is a special note of appreciation for a select few students who have done a neat presentation in their Internals.

Writing is an Art.

And in Art - as we all know - practice always comes before theory.

Especially at the PG level, students are exhorted time and again, to cultivate this ‘Art’ of writing!

Not simply writing, but writing it well!

That’s because anyone can write! Even a kindergarten student can write!

But what makes your writing special and unique?

What makes your presentation special, gifted and unique?

It’s not in saying anything! But saying a thing well!

It’s not in writing anything! But writing a thing well!

I’ve personally sent out the document that contains a note of appreciation for the following students. Still, I thought of acknowledging them here on our academic blog as well.

So here goes -

Special appreciation to the following students -

Sarukrishna, Allen, Kevin, Diya, Vinaya, Theresa, Harini, Renee, Shruthi, Joel, Priscilla, Anderlin, Shruthi Christian, Benita, Sindhu, Aslin, Shane, Jaysudha, Leela, Sree Mugunthan, and Sneka

for taking care to carefully number all your written pages on the answer sheet. Please continue this good practice in your ESEs as well.

Special kudos to the following students –

Shane Cristen, Lalitha J, Benita, Shruthi Christian, Dhanavaishnavi, Jelshiya, Shruthi R, Brindha, Yovanna, Kevin Woods, Beera Rajan and Leela

for their neat presentation, for avoiding over-writing, for using paragraph breaks, for spacing their writing legibly, for using neat margins to the left, and for using illustrations and examples wherever needed.

Just a few important points for you – at the PG level - before you take your exams –

Avoid using the short forms for words –

Eg: cos, &, cuz, n’, gonna, goin’, etc. Always use the full form of the words.

In any ‘Academic writing’, please avoid using the first person, ‘I’.

Try to convey the information in the third person. [Third-person pronouns are words such as “she,” “it,” and “they” that are used to refer to people and things that are not being directly addressed].

Please remember, only in creative writing, you have the freedom to use the first person.

Importantly, avoid writing in green or orange or pink ink pens. It was a bit of a shock to see that one of you has written in green ink. Please avoid that. After you become an officer, you are free to use green pens!

Always use a good blue or black pen.

And please don’t alternate between black and blue within your answer sheet.

The University or the College has not sanctioned even 0.1% marks for such colour swaps in your paper.

Keep up the good work. Best wishes for your upcoming exams.

Warm regards,

Dr. Rufus
