Summer's Time-Zones for the Vibrant College Student ❤️

Making the Most of your Time!

This Summer | #reflections

Summer time for a College Student, can be rewardingly divided into ‘Seven Parts’!

Internship Time

Course Time

‘Personal Project’ Time

Share Time

Spare Time

Downtime

Future Time

Summer break is the ideal time to recharge and enjoy yourself! At the same time, remember to strike a balance between engaging yourself in rewarding work and relaxing activities.

In this article, I discuss with you a few exciting things that you can do during these holidays that would make you a better version of yourself. To this end,

First comes Internship-Time!

So, what kind of Internships can I take up?

Well, make sure that you take up an internship that aligns with your interests, your passion, your career aspirations and your career goals – something that genuinely excites you!

Just ask yourself this question - What kind of profession/vocation do I see myself working in after my graduation? An internship in a related field can provide you with invaluable experience and networking opportunities, that will boost your career profile.

Your internships should offer you hands-on learning and networking opportunities, and help in upskilling you. So think of your skill-levels and areas in which you need upskilling as well.

Second comes, Course-Time!

What kind of online courses/Seminars/workshops can I do this Summer?

A lot of platforms like Coursera, Swayam, IISDT, upGrad, edX, and Udemy offer a plethora of courses to help you learn new skills in your field of study. These courses will be of immense use to you in your future career.

Third comes Me-Time!

Engage yourself in Personal ‘Me-Time’ Projects. Dedicate some quality time every day to do a few personal ‘me-time’ projects that you’re passionate about!

Your ‘Me-time’ is your personal space – a dedicated time that you intentionally set aside for yourself. It’s a beautiful space in which you step away from your usual obligations to focus on your own well-being and enjoyment.

It could be activities like nature journalling, indoor gardening, learning to play a new musical instrument, learning a new language, decluttering your room, engaging yourself in outdoor photography, exercising, meditating, walking, building a personal website, writing a novel, writing a research paper, writing daily blogs, etc.

Fourth comes Share-Time!

Have Quality Share-time – where you share your thoughts, ideas, and creations with the world through your podcasts, vlogs, blogs, etc. They play a great role in helping prospective employers to assess your potential and your talents.

Institutions today need employees who are assets, who have ‘contributed to society’ in some way or the other.

That’s why in the Office of International Programmes, when we interview students who wish to do their One-Semester Abroad, we ask them this question by default, ‘What is your contribution to society?’

Fifth comes Spare-Time!

Cultivate some spare-time every day for reading and journalling. Unleash your inner artist! And most importantly, keep a diary or a daily personal journal where you reflect on your day’s experiences, thoughts, and goals during your spare time.

Sixth comes Downtime!

Practice some downtime every day. Practice a digital detox routine, where you put your phone on silent or airplane mode and keep it out of sight. In this time frame, resist the urge to check emails or social media. In this downtime, you can indulge yourself in nature walks, beach walks, trails, hiking, listening to calming music, etc.

And lastly, seventh comes Future Time!

Prepare for your future time! Always plan at least a year in advance for your next step in life. If you’re graduating next year, then it’s time for you to explore your career options and start working towards that, right from now on.

Take time to create for yourself an attractive resume / CV. Have your SoPs in place and your LoRs as well. Remember – an SoP takes at least a month’s time to fine-tune!

Take time to participate in Seminars / Conferences / Events where you can connect with likeminded professionals. In this regard, having a regularly updated LinkedIn profile helps a lot! Look up Universities / Colleges that offer courses / programmes with scholarships / stipends. If possible, even write to the Universities / Colleges.

Best wishes.
