PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL

We are happy to announce the publication of the second issue of our literary journal, Eclectic Representations in February 2012. [In Print]. Eclectic Representations ISSN 2231 - 430 X is a peer-reviewed biannual journal, which covers English literature from the time of Chaucer to the present day. It features scholarly essays on diverse literatures like British, American, and Indian
Writing to name a few. It encourages the re-reading of familiar authors, as well as those that champion new or neglected works. It presents a remarkable diversity of methodologies and examines a wide range of literary and critical topics. The journal remains committed to the re-appraisal of accepted views, and the principle that criticism and scholarship should reinforce the pleasure for which literature and other works of arts are created.

ABOUT THE THEME

Pre- and post-independence Indian Writing in English has been constantly pre-occupied with the complex issue of construction of identities.

In the decades immediately before independence, the most important concern of writers seems to have been the construction of a pan-Indian nationalist identity, untroubled by differences of caste, gender, language, religion and region. This was important in the context of constructing/establishing the notion of a nation to resist colonial hegemony. Immediately after Independence this homogenizing tendency began to be questioned and the decades immediately following independence were marked by writings which sought to subvert and expose the inadequacies of this monolithic identity. In recent years, with a world that has come to recognize multiculturalism as an essential experience of life, nationalist identities are being further explored with reference to global contexts.

Hence, the National Seminar on Post-Independence Indian Writing in English: Theory and Praxis, intends to discuss and assess evolving identities in post-Independence Indian Writing in English which, while being polyphonic, is also syncretic and eclectic.
