Images of Women in German Cinema
@ Goethe-Institut
Auditorium
This film, as part of a
series, will focus on the question – what kind of images of strong women are
drawn and reflected in the cinematic perspective. This is about ‘big values’
such as freedom, recognition, justice and humanity. At the same time it is
about maintaining your own life in a world that prevents you somehow from
expressing your ideas and ways of living.
Margarethe von Trotta
studies art, German and Romanic languages before attending drama school in
Munich. She first made a name for herself as an actress before her directorial
debut in 1975 together with Volker Schlondorff. Many of her works are centered
on strong female characters and she has established herself not just as a
leading female filmmaker but also as a central figure of New German Cinema.
