Texture | in Language & Literature
John Crowe Ransom
What is Texture?
The word ‘texture’ originates from the Latin word ‘texere’ which means ‘to weave’.
Texture connotes to mean, the ‘organic’ elements that give a text a specific, unique and peculiar aesthetic form.
Professor Ransom, in his critical essay titled, "Criticism as Pure Speculation" (1941), beautifully brings out this dichotomy between structure and texture.
He
says, 'A poem is a logical structure having a local texture'.
This video lesson on 'TEXTURE' on my YouTube channel HERE, should be of great help to you in comprehending the term better.
Best wishes,
