Pages from the Past...!

Memories from my diary | On Ray & Gielgud

21 June 2000! 💛

These are my personal diary entries – and so some entries have been blurred!

Well, those were the days, when Satyajit Ray was our bread for daily use, and Ruskin Bond, our cake for special occasions!

What gripping ghost stories they used to dole out by the dozens!

And after reading their thrillers, we'd always wanted to [desperately wanted to] frighten some pavapetta friend who came our way - by narrating the story hot-o-hot & fresh-o-fresh from the pleasant penguin pages, for the pure unadulterated pleasure of scaring the wits out of them! 😋

And when in that very moment, some unsuspecting weak-kneed, chella fella came our way, our joy was almost full-o-full, dancing to the brim!

This was one such occasion when I ‘attempted’ narrating a ghost story from Ray, to one of my friends, and met with some good degree of success as well! 😋

And well, the second diary entry is from the day’s Newspaper (IE)

Sir Arthur John Gielgud remembered in the day’s Indian Express! He had passed away hardly a month ago, in May 2000.

Legendary English actor and theatre director - John Gielgud, [along with Ralph Richardson and Laurence Olivier,] was one of the trinity of actors who dominated the British stage for much of the 20th century!
