Will books soon become out-fashioned? (Student Assignment)

Books – the best friend of man! Can they ever be out-fashioned? Well the technology and the World Wide Web might replace newspapers with e-papers, magazines with e-magazines, paperbacks and novels with e-books. But who can deny the joy of feeling the paper in one’s hand and turning it page after page.

Not that I am against technology. Nothing is constant but change. Every generation has to make way for new changes to come in. Even the books that we read today have come to us as a change. Before the printed books as we read them today, we had hand written manuscripts. Going farther back there were just quills and vellum. Before that was the papyrus. And the first ever book was carved on the walls of caves and stones. Imagine reading from one of these today!

Apparently e-books will sooner or later replace our good old books. But I am sure there will still be a sect of people who will prefer books to e-books. And it sure is going to be a long while before our educational system goes for e-notes and e-textbooks to replace the sack bags that school children carry on their backs today.

So can books ever be out-fashioned? When I think of it I feel who can deny the sensation of opening a new book and smelling it, scribbling on the page corners when bored, spilling some coffee all over while reading through the pages, or for that matter using it as a pillow while falling asleep in class. No e-book can replace these, can it?

And like a lot of other people, I do still dream of publishing my BOOK and not an e-book.

So can books ever be out-fashioned? I think not. Not as long as people remember their childhoods when their elders read to them from books.
