New framework for UGC-NET 2012

The National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC), undergoes a drastic change from 2012 onwards. Students who have had problems with writing long, descriptive essays can now breathe easy. All the three papers have now been made objective. The first objective type NET exam is to be held on Sunday, 24 June 2012.
  • Paper I - 50 out of 60 Q are to be attempted (50x2 =100)1¼ Hours (09:30 to10:45 am)
  • Paper II - 50 Q all of which are compulsory (50x2 =100) 1¼ Hours (10:45 to 12:00 Noon.)
  • Paper III - 75 Q all of which are compulsory (75x2=150) 2½ Hours (01:30 to 04:00 pm)
The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks separately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III. Only such candidates who obtain the minimum required marks in each Paper, separately, will be considered for final preparation of result. However, the final qualifying criteria for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship shall be decided by UGC before declaration of result. The syllabus of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III will remain the same as last year.
There will be no negative marking from 2010.
The candidates will be allowed to carry the carbon printout of OMR Response Sheets with them on conclusion of the examination.

UGC conducts NET twice a year, i.e., in the months of June and December. UGC NET June, 2012 notifications are published in the months of March. University Grants Commission conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine eligibility for lectureship and for award of JRF to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research.

The JRFs are awarded to the meritorious candidates from among the candidates qualifying for eligibility for lectureship in the NET. JRFs are available only to the candidates who opt for it in their application forms.

Heavily subsidised UGC preparatory Classes are scheduled to be held in the first week of June 2012 at Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Information regarding the same, will be posted shortly, once the dates and details are finalised by the Organisers.
