Abstract: Our agrarian economy is in terrible
crises and so is our rural life world. The farm sector is in crises and there are
important challenges for the non-farm sectors as well. There are also
challenges of rural-urban transformations in contemporary India in the context
of depressed economies in the countryside and urban migration. The lecture
discusses these issues as well as challenges of rural development and
globalization and explores Gandhian pathways towards alternatives.
