Abstract
In June 2018, the Ministry of Human Resource
Development (MHRD), Government of India released a draft proposal for
establishing new institution - the Higher Education Commission of India (Repeal
the University Grants Commission Act) Bill 2018, especially intended to replace
the UGC Act.
It was intended to seek for comments, suggestions from
educationists, stakeholders and general public. Since then, the discussions
on the HECI bill have highlighted many concerns across the county.
It is
imperative to understand the objectives of the proposed bill, which has many
implications on the higher education of the country, the proposed panel discussion
would enhance public understanding on the issue.
