The PG and Research Centre of English at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College (Autonomous), Madurai, is thrilled to announce a Seven-Day International Faculty Development Programme (FDP) that dives deep into the intellectual transformations of the 21st century.
This FDP is designed to map how literary studies have moved away from the abstractions of high theory toward more applied, materialist, and politically engaged frameworks.

About the Programme
Literary theory hasn’t stood still. The late twentieth century was defined by high-stakes battles over post-structuralism, deconstruction, and the linguistic turn. Today, the landscape is much more grounded.
This survey-style FDP frames these modern shifts not as isolated schools of thought, but as responses to shared questions: What comes after critique? What does theory owe to the political and material world? Can reading itself be reimagined?
Participants will trace the intellectual genealogy connecting older theories to their successors, including:
• New Materialism (focusing on objects, bodies, and matter)
• Affect Theory (focusing on feeling and embodied experience)
• Post-Critique (challenging the hermeneutics of suspicion)
• Surface Reading (returning to the text's manifest content)
