Flag Hoisting | HSC Memories

15 August 1994 💛

#memoriesfromdiaries 💕

From my personal diary entry dated 15 August 1994

[Independence Day Special]

For once, the routine ‘5 am’ wake up calls weren’t there today.

And hence most of us spent that precious extra hour on ‘snore mode’, while a blessed few others spent an extra hour on ‘dream mode’, before waking up to our morning cuppas!

Today being our Independence Day, we had the customary Flag hoisting by our HM.

NCC Cadets from the Air, Navy and Army Wings were in full attendance, doing the honours when our Headmaster hoisted our National Flag.

Alfath was one of those rare few hostelers who had a ‘foreign’ (remember!? That’s how we used to call those gadgets back then) camera with him. He took snaps of the Flag-hoisting ceremony.

Sweets were then distributed as usual.

After that, it was playing time for all of us hostelers. [in Field 1]

Today, boys were given the freedom to go out of Campus – either for shopping or for watching movies!

The popular Ega Theatre was just a stone’s throw away from our Campus.

And coincidentally, just around this time, 1942: A Love Story, the good ol’ patriotic romance film featuring Manisha Koirala and Anil Kapoor was showing in theatres all over Chennai.

Hence most of our friends made a beeline to Ega Theatre to catch a glimpse of our teen sensation and heart-throb Manisha Koirala!

In fact, this film also proved a big hit and hence a great commercial breakthrough for her!

Coming back,

So yes! After a memorable day filled with fun and frolic, it was back to routine as usual, for all of us hostelers!

Evening by 5.30 sat at my desk – as usual – to do my ‘Home Work’ in preparation for my next day’s classes.
